Why Do I Hurt Myself is a vital book to add to any school counselor's book collection. With self-injuring starting as early as 4th and 5th grade, this book is a great resource to open cathartic dialogue with students who are in pain. This book's intended audience are grades 4 - 6 and should be read with or to them by a school counselor and/or nurse. It may assist in helping the student understand why they are participating in self-harming behavior. I personally have Susan Bowman's other book, See My Pain and find it extremely helpful when working with students.
Again this book is a great addition to the elementary school counselor's collection.
